Skincare Review

For as long as I can remember, I have been plagued with a frustrating combination of both oily and sensitive skin.

Trying to find an effective skincare regime has proved difficult over the years with some cleansers and moisturisers either burning the delicate, reactive skin on my cheeks or making my forehead so shiny that my foundation melts away to a patchy, orange film.

It was one particular day during a time where the weather was particularly cold and we had just moved house so the stress was wrecking havoc with my skin. As I made to put on my normal moisturiser (Simple Replenishing Moisturiser in case you were wondering) and the immediate burning sensation on my cheeks was so acute that I had to wash it off instantly.

During my lunch break at work that very same day, I headed into Boots to see if I could find anything that would be effective for my sensitive yet oily skin. At that point I wasn’t particularly fussed about the brand or cost; I think I was so stressed in general I just wanted this to be one thing that I didn’t need to worry about.

I stumbled across a particularly scientific looking range of skin-care products encased in a glowing block of shelves in the ‘Premium Skincare’ section. I’m not sure exactly what it was about this product that piqued my interest but I thought it would be worth investigating further. I quickly Googled the brand and after reading all the positive reviews I decided that I had nothing to lose and carefully selected the moisturisor that looked the most appropriate for me (there were several to choose from).

Enter La Roche-Posay Effaclar K(+), absolutely the best moisturiser I have found to date and in all honesty (and without wanting to sound too dramatic), it has changed my life.

I know, I know – bold statement.

However, before using this product my skin was prone to slight blemishes which have improved over the years and are by no means what you would consider acne, but nonetheless I was fairly self conscious about it and point blank refused to be seen without make-up on. I would even wear it to the gym!

I’m not sure how the formula works but my cheeks don’t dry out anymore, my nose and forehead are substantially less oily and I rarely (if ever) get any blemishes at all.

I have switched my foundation to an altogether lighter CC cream (more on that at a later date), which looks much more natural and less ‘cakey’ on my face.

I have received so many compliments on my glowing (but not shiny!) complexion and I completely credit this to the moisturisor.

Now, I will admit that it is a little more expensive then any of my other products (approximately £16 a 40ml tube) and I wasn’t really expecting to continue buying it after the first bottle had gone, but a little really does go a long way and you could probably change it up so that you are using a cheaper moisturiser in the evening and reserving this one for the day when you are putting products on top of it (such as foundation and primer).

I am now on my second tube and I could not recommend this more if you too suffer from combination skin which needs a little bit of extra TLC.

I will probably experiment with some of the other La Roche-Posay products at some point in the not-so-distant future, given the success of this one.

What skin care products would you recommend for combination skin?
