Someone once asked me what my complete, favourite thing was. It could be absolutely anything except for a living thing (like a person or animal).
The question had me a little bit stumped. I knew I must have a favourite thing but when caught off the cuff my mind went completely blank.
It was only on asking her what her favourite thing was that she admitted that she didn’t know either.
I went back to what I was doing while went through all the things I liked whilst trying to work out which was top of the list. In the end I couldn’t come up with just one thing, so I decided to write down what my top 10 favourite things are.
I imagine that some of these may change over time as life evolves and priorities change but here are a few things I simply couldn’t live without.
A cup of tea
Ahhhh…… a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake! What could be more British?
There isn’t much that can’t be fixed then a good natter with friends and a mug of tea. I expect that this is probably on a lot of people’s must have lists!
My Cashmere Scarf
Bought for me as a Thank You gift by some colleagues many years back.
It is my most used clothing item and in the winter I take it everywhere with me. Beautifully soft and warm, I’m not sure that any other scarf will ever be able to compare.
Something we seem to be lacking in the UK (although I hear we’re in for a treat this weekend!).
Mostly, we get our dose of sunshine from our annual summer holiday.
My Engagement ring
Whilst I love all the items on this list, I would probably say that the one I would be most devastated to lose is my engagement ring, mostly due to the sentiment and how much more self-assured I feel when I wear it.
I absolutely love to read and I have been known to devour a book a day when I’m on holiday.
My Kindle has changed my life and I can now take as many books on holiday as I want without adding unnecessary weight to my luggage (increasing my shoe allowance substantially), and I don’t have to leave the house in search of new reading material. I can just download it from my living room!
Without my hair straighteners my hair is a frizzy, unmanageable mane. Whilst I know it is extremely damaging I straighten my hair every single day.
Red wine on a cold winter’s day
Whilst I wouldn’t say this is something I do often, and I’m not a big drinker by any stretch of the imagination, I really love snuggling up in front of the fire after a long frosty walk with a lovely big glass of Merlot.
My sewing machine
On a rainy Sunday, there is nothing I love more then playing around on the sewing machine, making cushion covers and bunting. Admittedly, I’m not convinced I’m a natural sewing bee but I have made a few items that I particularly like, such as the Christmas bunting below.
Being a bit of a crafty person, I can easily lose a whole afternoon scrolling through Pinterest, looking for new inspiration.
It’s particularly useful at the moment as we are currently renovating our house and so, Pinterest is rapidly becoming my go-to source for interior ideas.
My Slow Cooker
There is nothing better then coming home from a long day at work to an evening of….no cooking!
In all seriousness, my slow cooker has been an absolute God-Send since moving to our new home. With no fuss and minimal effort I can make tasty stews, soups and curries that are ready to serve when we come home, leaving us free to knock tiles off bathroom walls of an evening.
